Spotlight On Art

The SEWS Art Therapist, Lissette, is nurturing students to find their potential. Below, Lissette outlines a students capabilities and their journey in Visual Arts discovery.

Marsden demonstrates a creative aptitude where he expands upon the teaching of an art approach to achieve unique artistic outcomes. During a Watercolour focused session, I introduced how to use oil pastels to repel watercolour. The activity demonstrated was simple and effective. However, Marsden extended himself by choosing to paint a Toucan from his imagination rather than having a picture to refer to. Marsden took onboard the artistic technique and used it to achieve unique details of his image of the Parrot. - Lisette Endacott - Registered Art Therapist

Music for Wellness

The SEWS music therapist, Anita, is supporting students emotional wellbeing and individualised goals. Weekly music therapy sessions allows students to thrive. Below, Anita describes music therapy at Sir Eric Woodward School.

''Music therapy supports students’ social communication, co-regulation, and emotional wellbeing through active, relational music-making. Across classes, sessions focus on turn-taking, choice and control, and eliciting responses through voice, body, gesture, and movement. Blue Class has been particularly notable this term, with students engaging meaningfully with musical dynamics (loud and soft) and temporal change (fast and slow), developing beat regulation through shared play. Across all classes, including online, students are demonstrating connection through rhythmic, and increasingly intentional musical play, reflecting growth across communication and participation goals.'' - Anita Connell PhD - Registered Music Therapist.
